College Admissions Secrets -- Other Tests

Other Tests

While the SAT Test and the SAT Subject Tests are some of the most common tests in the college admissions process, there are others to be aware of:

  • ACT — An alternative to the SAT.
  • PSAT/NMSQT — Practice for the SAT and a qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship program.
  • PLAN — Practice for the ACT.
  • Advanced Placement (AP) tests and International Baccalaureate (IB) tests — Tests based on college-level courses offered at certain high schools. Results may help students get credit for or exemption from introductory college courses. Strong test results will also bolster a student's academic profile, though these results generally receive less weight than the required tests.
