Appealing a Rejection
If you receive a rejection letter from a college you applied to, you may be able to appeal that decision.
How to Appeal
The appeals process varies from school to school, and not all colleges accept appeals. To learn about a college's appeals process, contact the admissions office directly. You may be asked to provide additional paperwork such as your latest transcript and a letter about why you are appealing.
Will the Appeal Work?
Most appeals are unsuccessful. That said, appealing is worth a try if you can offer the admissions office "significant new information." Like what?
- The recommendation that your teacher forgot to submit
- A description of your history or background—family drama, a disability, an accomplishment, etc.—that you had neglected to report in your original application
- A transcript showing a huge change in your academic performance
- News of major recognition you received after applying
